What goes on a plumbing estimate?

The service call or trip charge, the parts with their make and size, the labour in hours, disposal of anything you take away, and the permit where the job needs one. Water heaters, gas lines and new drains usually do. Put parts and labour on separate lines. Clients ask about both, and it lets you update the parts price without rewriting the estimate.

Do plumbers give free estimates?

Many do for planned work, like a water heater replacement, a bathroom rough-in or a repipe. For a problem that has to be found first, such as a leak behind a wall, a slow drain or low pressure, most plumbers charge a service call, because the diagnosis is the work. Plenty of them take that fee off the bill if the client goes ahead.

Whichever way you work, say it before you arrive. "Free estimates on installs, $95 diagnosis on repairs, credited if you go ahead" answers the question people type into Google before they call.

How do plumbers price a job?

Either hourly (labour hours times your rate, plus parts at cost or with a markup) or flat-rate from a price book, where each common job has one fixed price. Flat-rate is easier for the client to say yes to, and the estimate is shorter. Hourly is fairer on jobs nobody can size in advance. Either way the template works: one line per job, or one line per hour and part.

How do I turn this into a PDF?

Fill in the sheet, press "Print or save as PDF", and pick "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it, the buttons and the remove marks are left off. On a phone, the share button in the print preview sends the PDF straight to email or WhatsApp.
