What does an interior design estimate include?

The design fee in its stages: consultation, concept, development and specification, procurement, and installation and styling. Keep it separate from the cost of the furniture and finishes, which the client pays either way. Put that split at the top and the client stops thinking your fee includes the sofa.

Put the revision limit on the estimate itself. "Two rounds included, then hourly" on a line at a quantity of zero is the most useful sentence on an interior design estimate. It shows the price of changing their mind before they do.

How do interior designers charge?

Hourly, a flat fee per room or project, a percentage of the total project cost, or a markup on the furniture and materials they buy for the client. Many combine a flat design fee with a procurement markup. Whichever way you work, show it in the lines. If you charge a procurement markup, give it its own line with the percentage in the description, so the client never finds it later on an invoice.

Is the first consultation free?

It varies. A short call to check you are a fit is usually free. A site visit with measurements and advice usually is not, because that is the work. Charging for it, and crediting it against the project, sorts clients who are serious from clients collecting free ideas.

How do I turn this into a PDF?

Fill in the sheet, press "Print or save as PDF", and pick "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF") as the printer. Only the sheet prints: the page around it, the buttons and the remove marks are left off. On a phone, the share button in the print preview sends the PDF straight to email or WhatsApp.
