what we found when we opened it

8+ years building websites, 40+ sites launched. We do the work on every project ourselves, from the first call to launch.
On 23 September 2026 we fetched 120 public websites built with Lovable, Bolt and Framer the way a crawler first sees them: the HTML the server sends, before any JavaScript runs. Half the Lovable sites and 38 of 40 Bolt sites arrived as an empty shell.
Can Google see a Lovable website?
It depends on who is asking. Of 36 Lovable sites we could fetch, 18 sent us an empty shell: a blank mount point that only fills in after JavaScript runs. The median Lovable homepage carried 20 readable words, and 17 of the 36 had no H1 at all, so nothing in the HTML says what the page is about.
Google can run JavaScript and render the page later, and says so in its own documentation. A crawler that does not run scripts gets nothing, and in Vercel’s December 2024 analysis the major AI crawlers fetched JavaScript files without executing them. An empty shell asks every crawler to do extra work before it can read a single word.
A caveat we checked on 28 September 2026: Lovable says it prerenders pages for crawlers it can verify, and our fetch was not one of them. Google’s own Rich Results Test found valid structured data on a Lovable site that sent us a two-word shell. So these numbers show what an unrecognised crawler gets, which includes many AI tools. What Google gets for your site is in Search Console under URL Inspection.
| Builder | Measured | Empty shell | Median words |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lovable | 36 | 18 | 20 |
| Bolt | 40 | 38 | 0 |
| Framer | 38 | 0 | 1,366 |
What does a crawler see on a Bolt site?
Almost nothing. 38 of the 40 Bolt sites we fetched were empty shells, the median page carried 0 readable words, and the median HTML file weighed about 1 KB. 38 had no H1 and 24 had no meta description, so even the snippet a search result shows has to be guessed.
Are Framer websites good for SEO?
On readability, yes. None of the 38 Framer sites we fetched was an empty shell, and the median homepage carried 1,366 readable words in the HTML itself, because Framer sends the finished page from the server. The gap is structured data: all 38 had none, so no business name, address or hours in a form Google reads directly.
How do I fix SEO on a Lovable or Bolt site?
Make the server send the finished page. That means pre-rendering each route to HTML, or moving the site to a framework that renders on the server. Then give every page 1 H1, a unique title and meta description, and LocalBusiness structured data. Half the Lovable sites here already passed the shell test, so a readable Lovable site is possible.
If you would rather have it done for you, fixing SEO on a Lovable site is a service we offer on its own.
What a rebuild or a pre-render setup costs is in what it costs to fix an AI-built website. If you are not sure how your site was made, here is how to tell, and this is what vibe-coding a business website gets right and wrong.
How was this measured?
We collected 40 homepages on each builder’s own hosting domain (lovable.app, bolt.host and framer.website or framer.app) from search results, fetched each one once on 23 September 2026, and counted the words outside scripts and styles. 114 of 120 answered. Because the sample came from search results, these are sites Google already lists.
No site is named. “Empty shell” means a root element with nothing inside it and under 50 readable words on the page.
How do I check my own site?
Run it through the free nine-point audit. Its AI-readiness panel now counts only the words a crawler can read without running JavaScript, and marks the page “blank to crawlers” when it finds an empty shell. It needs only your address, and it returns the fix to make first.
